Ever since I went on maternity leave in the beginning of January, I’ve been itching to do something different to my hair.  And I mean, different.

When I was a teen, my mum would dye my hair for me.  We did all sorts of things from full bleaches in order to dye neon colours, to highlights, to more “normal” colours, and everything in between.

Being in an office, specifically the Real Estate industry, I’ve felt like I should stick with “normal” colours so as not to shock people too much.

But, I’m not in the office any more, and I really really want to dye my hair.  So what’s stopping me?  My few attempts to dye my hair (just straight colour, nothing fancy) have not gone over very well, so I would be loath to try anything funky on my own.

I’d love something along the lines of (photo from Sodahead.com):

Or maybe (photo from haircoloursideas.com):

Hmm.  I thought by going with streaks it would lessen the impact on people who have only known me with normal hair and have not suspected that I harbour colourful hair fantasies.  I like to express myself, but not to the point that it’s offensive to a lot of people.

Any ideas?  Also, what’s the best way to go about getting hair like this?  I’ve been toying with the idea of going to the local hair dresser’s, but price and skill are huge factors I’d like assurances on first…  I could go out-of-town, but again, would love to know first where to get the best results!  If you know of a hairdresser in Grande Prairie (Alberta), Dawson Creek (BC), Fort St. John (BC), or somewhere near Vancouver (BC) that has reasonable pricing and does a decent job on this kind of thing, please drop me a line!

Almost all of the “Mothers” I have known have all cut their hair shorter once they had kids. Partly because of the time it takes to “do” their hair. The kids take up too much time. And partly because of how the wee ones like to grab it, and pull it, and try to eat it!! LOL. And you know me, I say do what ever you like. It will always grow back…….

Heh, I did cut my hair (like 10 inches) a few weeks after Abby was born, but it’s never been shorter than my shoulders. I currently have two “styles” – up and down! Nathan is sure worse for trying to eat my hair than Abby ever was!
